A Reason to Visit the Principal

I just read this article Go to the Office!

It's really an interesting thought.

How often have you gone to the office to meet with principal?

Who wants to?

Read the article.

Do something fantastic.  I will send you to Dr. Kaplan and Mr. Segarra.

In all my years in school, I have been sent to the principal's office once and it was not because I was caught doing drugs or fighting in the hallways. I had approached Dr. Kaplan wondering if I could use the stage for a show I planning to put on. I can honestly say it was a VERY frightening experience. I was nervous because you get the feeling that your in trouble even when you know you aren't. Everyone thinks of the principals office as the place of no return. Where all the kids who are suspended and expelled are sent. Even if the teachers can't send every student with a good question to the principal, I do think that if a student wins the spelling bee or wins a competition or something of the like, then they should be sent to the principal's office. Then the office will no longer be "the place of no return," but instead a place where students are also recognized for their hard efforts.

  2. I thought this was a really interesting article because it's kind of busting that stereotype of the principal's office being a "place of no return", like Bella said. If kids begin to realize that they're getting something good out of going to the principal's office, they would establish a personal bond with someone that's always thought to be scary and would make life a lot easier for them. :)

I enjoyed reading this article because it was nice reading what the teacher had to say. It was apparent how much she cared about her students. I also think her idea of sending her students to the principal's office is brilliant. A lot of times, as Bella said, the principal's office is thought of being this scary place, and by doing what this teacher's doing, students will come to realize that it's not always a bad thing to meet with the principal. Of course, if the reason for being sent to the principal's office is for bad behavior then I think we should all be scared. :P More teachers should praise their students like this. By making their students feel good about themselves other students might be encouraged to try harder too.

I really liked this article. Most kids think of the principals office as a place to get in trouble, when really it can be a place to get rewarded. When kids are called to the principals they get scared and nervous. I think that if kids were going to the principals office for their achievements more often, then they wouldn't be as nervous when called to the office.

  5. I really enjoyed this article. When I get called to the principles office, I start to get nervous and shake. But usually, its a good thing and nothing that is bad. If students always went to the principles office for accomplishments, then you will be excites to go to the office.

This article was really interesting because i never thought of going to the principal's office from this perspective. Usually principals spend their entire day trying to solve problems. It was probably a nice change for him to get a compliment on how well the band was doing. I think that everyone deserves a chance to know how their hard work is paying off (including principals.)

When I read this article, I realized that it had never occured to me that a student can be sent to the principal's office for doing something positive. This benefits the student as well as the principal. The student will be congradulated and honored for doing a good deed. This may also set an example for other students. As for the principal,he/she will be able to experience a break from all of the negativity that the job entails. Reading this article has definetely changed my outlook on being sent to the principal's office.

  9. I found this article to be really interesting, I would have never thouht to think of the principal's office as a positive place to be, but after I read the article it made me realize the principal isn't all that scary and he's just a norma; person and students really have no reason to fear him at all.

  10. Going to the principal's office seems like such a scary experience, and I don't even know why! I feel that sending students to the principals office for good reasons would be a nice change, and would most likely brighten Dr. Kaplan's day. A LOT. (:

  11. This article was very interesting. I have never gone to the principal's office but just thinking about it makes me cringe. When most people are called down to the principal's office they think it's because they're in trouble. I think it would be kind of refreshing to go to the principal's office to "brag" about my achievements. I believe that students aren't afraid of the principal's office, they are afraid of the idea of it. It feels good to know that I don't need to be scared if I'm ever called down to Dr. Kaplan's office.

  12. This article was interesting. I would never have thought that a teacher would send a student to the Principal's office for doing something good. I'm sure that any principal would like to have a phone call from a parent that has something nice to say and it's complaining. People should do that more often.

Going to the principal's office, or even to the grade level center can be terrifying, but who knows why students are being called there. As the article and other students said, it can be a good thing or a bad thing to get sent to the principal. I guess the principal's office is a good place. I really enjoyed reading this article.

The article was really interesting. I never imagined going to the principal's office for something good. I've always imagined it as a place to be afraid of. I have never gone to the principal's office, but this made me change my opinion on being sent there. It would be great to be sent to the principals office as a reward.

  15. I have gone to the principals office a couple times but not for anything bad. I have gone because of yearbook. I think it would be really nice if principals got good news every once in a while. This article was quite fascinating.

  16. This article is something that most kids would never expect to read. I think that being called to the principal's office for accomplishing something is not only a great way to motivate kids, but it is also a great way for the principal to get involved in their school. In my elementary school, if we won this contest we got to eat lunch with the principal, I guess the topics are somewhat linked, but when my friend and I got to eat lunch with the proncipal we learned a lot about her, too. In my opinion, students should get to know the principal of their school, because not oly does it establish familiarity, it also lets students understand more about what is going on in their school. I fully agree that students should be sent to the principals office when they accomplish something.
