This is off topic but I just remembered Mrs. Newman's Jaberwaky poem:
Twas brilling, and the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe, all mimsy were the borogrove, and the momewrats at grabe. Beware the jaberwok my son, the jaws the claws that smatch, beware the jub jub bird and shun the frumios bandesnatch. He took his vorbal sword in, long time the long time th manxome foe he sought,
so rested he by the tum tum tree and stood a while in thought. And as in uffish thought he stood the jaberwock with eyes of flame came wiffling through the tugley wood and burbled as it came. One two one two the vorpal blade went snicker snack, he left it dead and wit it's head he went galumphing back. And has thou slayed the jabberwock come to my arms my beamish boy. O frabjus day calloh callay. He chortled in his joy. Twas brilling, and the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe, all mimsy were the borogrove, and the momewrats at grabe.

can be rather strange.
Tyler Levinson Pr.6
You all realize that haikus are not necessarily the strict five-seven-five syllable pattern, right? Many other haikus define the seventeen japanese on by letters. The Japanese themselves realize that 17 of their on last for about 12 english syllables. The definition of a haiku, according to the Haiku Society of America,is "a short poem that uses imagistic language to convey the essence of an experience of nature or the season intuitively linked to the human condition."
ReplyDelete@KevinK806 I had heard that, but, then again, the way they teach it to us at school really is the five- seven- five syllable pattern. I guess it's just easier, too. My definition of a short poem can be different than yours and if not, everyone else would have pretty different poems.
ReplyDeleteSo what, Kevan "Kay"?

There is just one thing:
Most of you botched up the form.
Note the five-seven-five.
All terrors aside,
This is thoroughly pleasing.
I hope to spy more.
Your vernacular
